Information is Power; Access is Empowering

Nice title huh? Thanks Neelakantan for your comment to my previous post. Here, I reproduce his comment and my answer in full along with the original post.

What are the hurdles for the BoP user?

I’ve
been using the blog as a tool to gather my thoughts and ruminate these
last two days and had one last thought before I close for the day. What
would be the barriers to entry for the BoP user before they could do
what I do online? What are the hurdles? Jan Chipchase has done extensive work in observing such users. Must go delve into his site. But, in the meantime, any ideas?

Eleventh
is literacy, Twelfth is language. The numbers 1 to 10 would be food,
clothing, shelter, money and then some value out of the whole thing!
Only once she is through the basic needs could they look at anything
beyond that, like going online for value.

what if she went online for www.kiva.org through her mobile and was then enabled to provide 1-10

would she then not need 11 to do that first?
