If innovation happens at the edges, does that make the BoP the fringe of the global economy?

Just curious and wondering.

This question emerged from a conversation I'd just had over the phone with a young woman doing her PhD at the Hanken School in the broad space between marketing, the BoP and human rights. She's going into the field next week to do what we'd done earlier in India, except that its in Tanzania. They say mPesa is finally on the uptake there, must ask her to bring back some photos of mPesa advertising from Dar es Salaam.
